Srinagar, Oct 22: The Government has held only single District Development Board (DDB) meeting in this financial year which will impact and hinder major development works and finalization of the development plan in the State’s 22 districts.
Despite timely reminder its Planning Department to begin holding DDB meetings in May this year, the Government failed to held any except one in Pulwama district.
Principle Secretary, Planning and Development Department, B R Sharma told Excelsior that the department had asked the chairmen of all DDBs to hold meetings to discuss the development plans of the districts.
“We have informed all the chairmen of these Boards to start holding meetings in May. But, only a single meeting has been held in Pulwama. DDBs in other 21 districts are yet to be held,” Sharma said.
With elections likely to be held on time and model code of conduct to come in place just few days from now, it won’t be possible for the Government to hold meetings in the 21 districts.
The board meetings are held in each district of the State where major development decisions and plan outlay for the district are discusses and finalized for a particular financial year.
Members of Parliament (MPs), Ministers, legislators (both MLAs and MLCs), and senior officials in the district sit to discuss and finalise the plan.
“A number of major development related works are discussed and the developed plan is also approved by the board. But when meetings are not held which development can we do because funds are not released by the Finance Department,” said a Deputy Commissioner of a district.
He said that not holding these meetings has considerably impacted the overall development in the State.
