NEW DELHI, Mar 20: The Government has launched concreted efforts to raise public awareness about the Right to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, especially its provisions for school standards and school performance, Minister of State for Human Resource Development Sashi Tharoor said today.
During Question Hour in the Lok Sabha, Mr Tharoor said the popularisation was being done through community mobilisation, training of school management committees and Sarva Siksha Abhiyan programme, which was the main vehicle for implementation of the RTE Act where state and district level activities for advocacy and awareness were created on a regular basis.
The reply was given amidst noisy scenes as DMK members and SP members were in the well of the House in support of their demands.
The DMK members were protesting aginst Sri Lankan army’s alleged atrocities on Tamils and SP members were demanding resignation of Union Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma for his reportedly remarks that Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav has links with terrorists.
The Minister said the awareness campaigns have generated enthusiasm and knowledge about the RTE Act among the stakeholders. (UNI)
