JAMMU, May 28: The present regime of Jammu and Kashmir has miserably failed to implement schemes meant for socio-economic upliftment of weaker sections of the society as no serious effort is being made to empower them in terms of employment and provision of incentives to set up income generating units.
This was stated by Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial president, of National Conference for Jammu, while addressing working committee meeting of NC OBC Cell here today. The meeting was organized by Abdul Gani Teli, Provincial president, OBC Cell National Conference, Jammu in which several issued being confronted by the OBC people were highlighted. The demands related to OBC people were raised in the meeting include implementation of 27 % reservation in Jammu and Kashmir as per Mandal Commission report; political reservation and OBC certificate should be renewed/issued for lifelong.
He said that the incumbent government has despondently unsuccessful in protecting the rights of OBC community in Jammu and Kashmir. It’s unfortunate that these people are still deprived of what they deserve in the form of reservation which is being enjoyed all over the country, he said, adding that when other Central laws are being implemented in Jammu and Kashmir then why the Central government is shying to implement Central OBC quota in reservation at par with rest of the States.
Gupta further said that govt should issue one time OBC certificate on the analogy of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe categories. He also demanded political reservation to the OBC on the analogy of SC/ST.
Abdul Ghani expressed great disappointment over the administrative apathy in effective implementation of various schemes for upliftment of weaker sections of the society specially OBC. He also emphasized the need for enhancing the reservation quota for these sections bringing this at par with per several other states of the country.
Brij Mohan Sharma vice president emphasized that NC is the only party which can satiate the urges and aspirations of all segments of the society, irrespective of region, religion, caste or creed.
Senior leaders Sheikh Bashir Ahmed and Yashu Vardhan Singh also spoke on the occasion. Prominent among those present on the occasion included Vijay Lochan, Pardeep Bali, Dr Shamshad Shah DDC Chairman, Jatin Bhat, Mohd Rafiq, Mohd Bashir, Bua Ditta and Joginder Verma.
