Govt plans to bring 4 more bills, apart from 16 scheduled

NEW DELHI: Buoyed by the passage of two bills in the first week of the Monsoon session, the government is likely to bring four more legislations in addition to the 16 others which are already lined up in the ongoing session.
On July 19, the Lok Sabha passed The Indian Medical Council (Amendment) Bill, 2016, and The Dentists (Amendment) Bill, 2016, after discussions lasting for five hours.
“The passage of these two bills shows there is a positive attitude among members towards legislative business, so we are planning and keen to introduce four more bills in this session,” Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar said.
He, however, did not elaborate about the bills which are likely to be introduced.
Earlier, on GST Bill, the Minister had said that the passage of the GST bill in the current session is a priority for the government.
Asserting that GST Bill was in the interest of the nation, Kumar had said the approach of all political parties, including Congress, was “positive” towards this bill and the government was hopeful of a consensus. (AGENCIES)
