Govt to train liaison officers for SCs, STs, OBCs employees

NEW DELHI, May 8:
The Centre today decided to train liaison officers from all ministries and departments to ensure proper implementation of government’s policy of reservation for its employees belonging to Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs) and Other Backward Classes (OBCs).
All liaison officers would be sensitised with their roles, duties, responsibilities and powers by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).
They will also be imparted the knowledge and skills for implementation of instructions relating to reservation for SCs, STs and OBCs in their respective ministries and attached and subordinate offices with special emphasis on maintenance of reservation rosters, the DoPT said in an order.
Such officers would be trained to be fully competent in taking charge of the ‘Reservation Cell’ in their respective ministries besides other functions as deemed necessary for discharging the duties efficiently, it said.
The matter of appointment of liaison officer had come up during the review of implementation of reservation policy in various government ministries and departments by the National Commission for Scheduled Castes.
It had noticed that no liaison officer was appointed or SC/ST Cell was not constituted despite clear instructions by the DoPT.
Following which, the Commission had recommended that all the Government sectors should follow the instructions of the DoPT regarding appointment of liaison officers and constitute SC and ST Cell.
“The liaison officer should also be made accountable for implementation of reservation policy in the department,” the DoPT said and asked all ministries to nominate an officer for the purpose. (PTI)
