JAMMU, Dec 28: In an order issued today Government has asked all the doctors working in Government Health Care Institutions to ensure that the prescription of medicines is written in ‘Legible Capital Letters’ with the signature, name and designation of the doctor legibly and clearly written at the bottom of the prescription.
The order further said that the doctors will ensure that the medicines prescribed in the first place should be out of drugs available in their concerned Health Institution as part of Government supplies and should be in generic form.
“Under no case shall a molecule, which is available under Government supply in a Health Institution (under Free Drugs Policy) shall be prescribed to a patient for his/her to procure from market”, the order said.
The order reads that all HoDs shall have prescription audits conducted on routine basis and at least once in six months to guard against any action being taken by anyone in violation of the aforesaid directives, and in the event of any violation of these directives necessary disciplinary action shall be taken.
“All HoDs shall also ensure framing of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for treatment of the patients and circulate the same to respective Health Care Institutions for promoting suitable and uniform treatment protocols”, the order said.
