Sir,
My wholehearted appreciation for the recent directives issued by the Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Climate Change (MoEFCC) regarding green tourism in the Jammu and Kashmir region. The Ministry’s emphasis on environmental conservation and the urgent need for a comprehensive tourism master plan is indeed a commendable endeavour.
Unregulated development and tourism have wreaked havoc on the delicate ecosystems and habitats in many tourist destinations, leading to ecological degradation and environmental issues. The MoEFCC’s guidance, in this context, is both timely and wise. We have witnessed the detrimental consequences of such development in other states, and it is imperative to prevent a similar fate for Jammu and Kashmir.
The directives encompass a wide range of considerations, from hotel permits to promotional activities, and I believe that meticulous execution at the grassroots level is crucial to turning these directives into tangible realities. Responsible tourism practices, construction restrictions, and comprehensive master plans are vital steps to strike a balance between tourism development and the preservation of the region’s natural beauty.
I hope that the J&K Government will whole heartedly embrace and implement these directives to safeguard the region’s unique ecological diversity and ensure a sustainable future for tourism.
