Gritty Sumitpal blossoms in AITA Super Series

JAMMU, July 24: Jammu and Kashmir’s ace tennis player Sumitpal Singh blossomed in the ongoing AITA Super Series by reaching semifinals in Under-14 and Under-16 categories at All Assam Tennis Association Stadium, Guwahati.
In Under-16 singles quarterfinals, Sumitpal defeated PC Anirudh of Andhra Pradesh in straight sets by (7-6,6-1) to qualify for the semifinals, while in pre-quarters, he drubbed Akash Nandwal of Madhya Pradesh by (7-5, 6-2). Earlier, in first round, Sumitpal Singh got better of 4th Seed of the Tournament, Shrey Gupta of Haryana in a tough contest by (7-6, (7-4) 4-6,6-2).
In Under-16 doubles event, the duo of Sumitpal and Vikas Singh of West Bengal prevailed over Shrey Gupta of Haryana and Ishaq of West Bengal in the quarterfinals by (2-4, 5-3, 10-7), while in pre-quarterfinals, the pair defeated Ronak Bora and Ankit Kashab of Assam by (4-1, 4-2).
Meanwhile, Prinkle Singh of Jammu and Kashmir also reached quarterfinals of Under-14 and Under-16 singles, while she also stormed into the finals of the Under-16 girls doubles event.
Earlier, in Under-16 girls singles first round, Prinkle outplayed Harshita of Tamil Nadu by (6-1, 6-2), while in pre-quarterfinals, Prinkle defeated Suranjita of Assam by (6-1, 6-3).
In Under-14 singles pre-quarterfinals, Prinkle defeated Dharna of Andhra Pradesh by (4-1, 4-2) in straight sets, while in the first round, she got better of Raveena Reddy of Andhra Pradesh by (4-1, 4-0) in an easy contest.
Meanwhile, in Under-16 girls doubles, Prinkle Singh alongwith with her partner D Deepya of Andhra Pradesh stormed in the finals by defeating Shivani and Malesh Wini of Andhra Pradesh in an easy contest in the semifinals.
Earlier, in the quarterfinal, the duo thrashed the pair of Yubrani and Sukhriti of West Bengal.
