LONDON, June 4: American-British-Canadian girl group GRL have hinted that they have split up.
Speculation about the girl group’s future began over the weekend, when members Emmalyn Estrada and Paula van Oppen both removed the band name from their Twitter handles, reported Digital Spy.
Fellow bandmember Lauren Bennett also thanked fans for sticking with the group through “the tough times”.
Member Simone Battle died in September last year, with the remaining members taking a break before returning with their tribute single ‘Lighthouse’ earlier this year.
GRL featured on Pitbull’s ‘Wild Wild Love’, which peaked at number 30 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number six in the UK. Their UK success continued with ‘Ugly Heart’ reaching number 11 last summer.
The girls released a five-track EP, but have disbanded before putting out a complete album.
The split has yet to be acknowledged on the band’s official social media accounts, with the most recent tweet coming on May 1, just after the quartet had finished supporting Meghan Trainor on the Australian leg of her ‘That Bass Tour’. (PTI)
