Grover bags title, young Meenal shines as Chess C’ship concludes

JAMMU, Feb 10: Securing 12.5 points out of 13 rounds, Sumit Grover won the title, while second place went to 11 year old and only female participant, young Meenal Gupta who scored 11 points out of 13 in the J&K State Senior “A” Chess Championship which concluded at Hotel Nek, Below Gummat, here today.
The third, fourth and fifth positions went to Maxim Singh, Rohit Bhardwaj and Mohd Sharief respectively.
The Tournament was organized by All J&K Chess Association under the patronage of J&K State Sports Council.
Rajan Sharma, Sports Officer Jammu was the chief guest on the valedictory function, who distributed the cash prizes and trophies among the winners on the occasion. He lauded the efforts of All J&K Chess Association in organizing the mega event smoothly and successfully. Prominent among others present on the occasion were Atul Kumar Gupta, president AJKCA; Ashiq Ahmed Kolu, general secretary AJKCA; F ADar, chief coordinator; Baldev Raj, vice president AJKCA and Ajit Singh, chief arbiter of this event.
Top four players of the Championship will represent J&K State in forthcoming Senior National to be held at Shimla in the month of May 2014.
