*Gujarat Giants on top of points table

JAMMU, Dec 3: Abhishek Jhunjhunwala was at his murderous best in his rapid-fire innings of 81 runs to guide Gujarat Giants to a resounding 5-wicket victory and take them on top of the points table with seven points after the completion of his team’s all group stage matches in the ongoing prestigious Legends League Cricket at Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam today.
Chasing a big total of 159 runs, Gujarat Giants sailed on splendid batting display from Jhunjhunwala to chase the target in penultimate over of the match, losing 5 wickets in the process. Jhunjhunwala was in sublime touch and sent the bowlers on a leather-hunt, smashing 10 delectable boundaries and 3 massive sixes, while Kevin O Brien (29), Chirag Khurana (22) and Elton Chigumbura (21) were the other major contributors.
For Southern Super Stars, Hamid Hassan took 2 wickets, while Abdur Razzak, Suranga Lakmal Chaturanga de Silva claimed one wicket apiece.
Earlier, batting first, Southern SuperStars scored a decent total of 159 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 8 wickets in the process. Upul Tharanga top scored with 34 runs off 31 balls, studded with 4 boundaries, while Shreevats Goswami contributed brisk 24 runs off 21 balls including 4 fours. C de Silva (17), Rajesh Bishnoi (17), Lakmal (15) and Pawan Negi (13) were the other contributors. For Gujarat Giants, Johnston took 3 wickets, while Monty Panesar bagged 2 wickets.
Now, with just one league match remaining before the qualifiers, Gujarat Giants are on the top of the points table, followed by Manipal Tigers, Urbanrisers Hyderabad, India Capitals, Southern Super Stars and Bhilwara Kings.
