Gujjar delegation meets Board of Nomadic Communities Chairperson

JAMMU, July 14: A delegation of Gujjar and Bakarwal community leaders led by tribal researcher, Dr. Javaid Rahi today met Bhinko Ramji Ibate, Chairperson of Development and Welfare Board for De-notified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Communities.
The delegation discussed issues being faced by Gujjars and Bakarwals in J&K.
The Board team is on a three day visit to Jammu to listen issues of nomadic communities.
The delegation demanded that the Board should initiate housing plan, eradication of illiteracy and poverty schemes in J&K for nomadic tribes.
The delegation members demanded steps for educational development, due share in recruitment and promotions in Government jobs, admission in educational/professional institutions, steps for socio-economic development besides political representation.
Other demands included implementation of Conservation Act-1980 and the Forest Rights Act-2006 to rehabilitate nomads, forest dwellers and recognize habitation of ‘Forest Villages’ of J&K on the prototype of other States and UTs and rehabilitation of all members of nomadic tribes who are landless or living on non-forest lands.
