JAMMU, Apr 13: In a significant step towards structured sports development across the Union Territory, Secretary, J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul chaired a comprehensive meeting with office bearers of all recognized Sports Associations at MA Stadium, Jammu today.
The meeting, attended by Presidents and General Secretaries of various associations, focused on finalizing the sports calendar for 2025-26 at District, UT, and National levels. Discussions also included the review of the current sports scenario, formulation of new programmes, and crafting a development roadmap in view of the growing infrastructure and increased sporting activity across J&K.
Nuzhat Gul directed all associations to submit their sports calendars within two weeks and stressed the need to make sports accessible to every potential athlete across the UT, especially in rural, border, tribal and far-flung areas. “We must catch talent young and train them under professional coaches to make J&K a result-oriented sporting hub,” she said.
She also discussed equipment needs, infrastructure development and the setting up of additional Khelo India Centres. Gul urged associations to help bring national leagues and events to J&K, assuring full support from the J&K Sports Council in hosting such competitions to boost the region’s sporting profile.
