JAMMU, Apr 23: The former Union Minister and MLA, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has strongly advocated the need for fresh and fair delimitation of the constituencies and political reservation to the Scheduled Tribes, in addition to effective check in the abuse of public funds, to ensure equitable and all round development of the State.
Prof. Gupta ridiculed the parroting of equal treatment to all the regions of the State by the ruling leaders, and pointed out that disparities still existed in almost all the fields of life. The problem could not be tackled unless there is due distribution of political power which is enshrined in the proper and fair representation in the governance. But it was unfortunate that under a design an embargo has been put through Constitutional amendment that there would be no fresh delimitation of the Assembly Constituencies till 2026.
This embargo proving a big hurdle in the grant of political reservation to Scheduled Tribes including Gujjar Bakerwals, Gaddi’s, Sippi’s and others in J&K, he added.
While taking the stock of developmental activities in his Constituency, Prof. Gupta observed that the developmental activities are a must for survival in the democratic set up. He pointed out that Narinder Modi in Gujrat, Nitish Kumar in Bihar, Mamta Banerjee in Bengal and some others in their respective areas are flourishing but for their sincere efforts for developmental activities. This phenomenon is getting the liking of the people everywhere.
