JAMMU, June 22: Dr Shyama Prashad Mukherjee was a great soul and his martyrdom was for a big cause of unity and integerity of the country. It is the duty of every nationalist to work for the completion of the task taken up by Dr. Mukherjee and great Dogra leader Pt. Prem Nath.
Paying rich tributes on the eve of 61st Martyrdom Day of Dr. Shyama Prashad Mukherjee the former Union Minister and MLA, Prof Chaman Lal Gupta said that it was an irony of fate that though Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India still the people of this State have been denied the same democratic rights which are enshrined in the Indian Constitution but for a so-called special status under Art 370.
This separate status has resulted in many problems and providing encouragement to separatists infected by the virus of communalism having roots to the pernicious ‘two nations theory’ he added and alleged that those who are operating for separate status for this State owe an explanation that if the Constitution of India can be good for 125 crore other Indians including many crores of Muslims, how it can be bad for few lakhs of the peoples of Kashmir Valley who are pleading for retention of separate position under Art 370 which of course was inserted in the statue book as a Temporary measure.
Prof. Gupta said that Dr. Mukherjee and many others had sacrificed their lives for Unity and Integrity of the country, there is no valid ground for any separate Constitution for their State which has harmed the interests of the people in many a way. Dr. Mukherjee was right for his struggle for one constitution and one flag for the entire people of the country. There should be no differential treatment to any people of any part of the country on basis of religion, caste or creed, he asserted and appealed all the nationalists to redeem their pledge on this day to carry forward the message of Dr. Shyama Prashad Mukherjee. This, he said, would be the real tribute to the great martyr.
