JAMMU, Sept 13: Former Union Minister Prof Chaman Lal Gupta has ridiculed the boycott call to the long pending elections to the basic democracies of the State and alleged that some outfits of troubled Kashmir are indulging in political blackmail by linking these with a constitutional issue viz. the provision of 35-A, which has little relevance with Panchayat or Municipal bodies.
He added that the issue of the validity of 35-A is before the Supreme Court but instead of relying upon judicial process, an attempt is being made to create a messy situation in the Valley and thus, the big India is being asked to dance at their tunes as if India had acceded to their Valley and not Kashmir to the Union of India which is being asked to act on the dictates of some political family outfits of Kashmir.
Prof Gupta said that sad situation in Kashmir is the result of the blunders committed by Jawahar Lal Nehru. First of all the Maharaja of the State who signed the instrument of Accession and provided legal sanctity to J&K being an integral part of the Union of India and his privy purse was made a matter of controversy to appease his political friend Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah.
Great visionary Dogra leader Pt Prem Nath who opposed to ceasefire with Pakistan and discriminatory status to J&K was jailed without any trial to face great hardships. He also pointed out that the founder of the Constitution Dr BR Ambedkar was opposed to Article 370.
Prof Gupta said that a strange situation is being created that even an Army jawan who comes from other part of the country to serve here and shed his blood to defend the State as part of the Country but he too has no right to acquire a piece of land here to live in not to say of citizenship rights but on the contrary any person of J&K had all the rights including acquire properties, service and that of voting and contesting the elections.
“More funny is that any male can marry outside the State but if any lady does the same can lose all rights if she marries with an outsider”, he pointed out and alleged that under communal considerations an ambiguous situation is being created.
