Gurkeerat’s all-round effort falls short as MT clinches Super-Over victory

JAMMU, Oct 3: An all-round effort by skipper Gurkeerat Singh proved insufficient as the Harbhajan Singh-led Manipal Tigers triumphed over Toyam Hyderabad in a thrilling Super-Over finish during the Legends League Cricket (LLC) 2024 at MA Stadium here today.
In the Super-Over, needing just 5 runs, Manipal Tigers chased it down with ease, securing a decisive victory. Earlier, Toyam Hyderabad, chasing a challenging total of 144 runs, experienced early setbacks but rallied thanks to the batting prowess of Gurkeerat Singh and Shaun Marsh, who helped level the scores, pushing the match into the Super-Over.
Gurkeerat contributed a commendable 37 runs off 35 balls, while Marsh added 38 runs from the same number of deliveries. R Shukla was a standout bowler for Manipal Tigers, taking 2 wickets, while Praveen Gupta, A Gunaratne, and O. Pienaar each claimed one. Harbhajan Singh was particularly economical, conceding just 16 runs in his 4 overs.
Manipal Tigers, after winning the toss and opting to bat, posted a total of 144 runs on a slower pitch. T Perera was the top scorer with an unbeaten 48 runs from 27 balls, featuring 6 fours and 2 sixes. A Perera and O. Pienaar chipped in with 18 and 11 runs, respectively.
On the bowling side, Bipul Sharma and Gurkeerat Singh took 2 wickets each for Hyderabad, with N Pradeep and I Udana also getting one wicket each.
