*Himalayan Cricket tournament concludes

LEH, Nov 4: In a landmark event for both sports and local craftsmanship, Chairman/CEC Adv. Tashi Gyalson, LAHDC, Leh, launched a locally crafted cricket bat from Hanu village, marking a new chapter in Ladakhi sports and heritage. This bat, an embodiment of local skill and dedication, will generate sales proceeds to support the creation of a rock-carved replica of the Bamiyan Buddha in Hanuthang, underscoring Ladakh’s commitment to cultural preservation and community development.
The inaugural Himalayan Cricket Tournament concluded with an intense final match organized by the Dudthul Tharpaling Society, where the Avengers emerged victorious over Stobshoog, securing a prize of Rs 100,000. Stobshoog, the runner-up, was awarded Rs 60,000. Esteemed attendees included Councillor Lower Leh and LOP Tsering Namgyal, alongside Councillors Lundup Dorjai, Lobzang Sherab, Karma Namdak, Stanzin Chosfail, Ishey Spalzang, Mirza Hussain, Smanla Dorje Nurboo and Jigmet Rafstan, president of LBA Youth Wing.
CEC Tashi Gyalson highlighted the historic nature of the bat’s launch, symbolizing not only a boost for the sport in Ladakh but also significant support for the local economy and the “Vocal for Local” initiative. Gyalson assured the crowd of the bat’s quality, confident it could excel beyond local markets and thanked the Councillors and community members for their united support in promoting Ladakhi craftsmanship and sportsmanship.
This tournament and bat launch mark a significant stride in sustaining Ladakh’s culture and fostering local industry, laying the foundation for future projects that celebrate Ladakhi heritage and talent.
