Hakla demands effective steps for welfare of Gujjar women

POONCH, May 29:  Shamsher Hakla Poonchi a prominent Gujjar Leader and intellectual of the State  has said the literacy rate among Gujjar and Bakarwal women is very low and concerted efforts need to be taken in this regard by the government so that it can be improved.
In a statement issued here today he said the Beti-Bachao and Bati Paraho slogan of Prime Minister Narendra Modi be implemented in letter and spirit in Gujjar and Bakarwal Bastis as even after 70 years of independence majority of the women folk among the community have been deprived of this facility due to lack of proper arrangements of schooling in their localities.
Hakla also made an appeal to Women Commission in the State to take steps for the betterment and welfare of Gujjar women and destitute.
Hakla said that the Problems and needs of Gujjar Bakarwals women’s are quite different from other communities of the State. Language and culture of Gujjar community is also different than those of other communities of this State that is why community has its own peculiar position. Gujjar Bakarwal community is different and as such the community has a district identity.
He said Gujjar Bakarwal of J&K are economically, socially, educationally and politically backward.
Hakla also appealed to the Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti that representation should be given to the Gujjar Bakarwal women in Legislative Council.
