Happy Model emerges winner in Children’s Science Congress

SRINAGAR, Nov 29: In the State Level Competition of the prestigious National Children’s Science Congress, Happy Model Hr Secondary School, Udhampur’s Project bagged the 1st Rank.
150 projects drawn from schools across the State participated in the competition held at Srinagar.
The Project which claimed first place was “NoHeWa” i.e. “No Heat Waste” in an LPG stove.
The innovative project uses the heat normally wasted in an LPG stove to heat circulating water and to even reduce the cooking time by” rebound-effect.”
The students calculated that one can save up to Rs 4400 per annum by using their innovation. The Project was headed by Erwin Andromeda as group leader and supported by Riya Shan, Priyanka Rana, Kannav Kalsotra, and Umesh Thakur all students of Class 8th.
The project was guided by Prof Mineesh Gulati. The group is planning to get their innovation patented.
The competition was judged by Dr DK Pandey of DST, New Delhi and Prof Shrivastava from IIT- Kanpur. The Project standing first would represent the State at the 21st National Children’s Science Congress to be held at Bhopal from December 27 to December 31, 2013.
The National event will be inaugurated by Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, former President of India and the students would get an opportunity to spend time with senior scientists of India for 5 days in scientific sessions.
The School students and Guides were honoured at the Special School Assembly by the Founder Principal, Kamal Gulati, Retd Maj M L Gulati and Dr Vikram.
