Haryana takes on Chandigarh in Shafi Qureshi summit clash

JAMMU, Oct 2: Defeating their rivals convincingly in the semifinals, Punjab and Delhi made it to the finals of Under-19 boys Narang Cup, while Haryana and Chandigarh got better of their rivals in the last four stage to meet each other in the Under-19 girls Shafi Qureshi Cup title clash tomorrow.
Earlier, in the first semifinal, Punjab outplayed Haryana by (2-0). In singles, Kashish trounced Arun by (10-21, 21-13, 24-22), while in doubles, Kashish and Sumit prevailed over Himanshu and Sandeep by (22-20, 14-21, 21-9).
Delhi defeated Chandigarh by (2-0) in another semifinal of this event, with Ankit Chikara beating Rupinder Singh in singles event by (24-12, 20-22, 22-20), while in the doubles, Anish and Uttkarsh got better of Rupinder and Kawaljit by (24-22, 21-12).
Meanwhile, in Under-19 girls Shafi Qureshi Cup semifinals, Haryana trounced Rajasthan by (2-1). In singles, Lalita beat Korma Meena by (21-8, 21-14) and Komal beat Barma Meena by (21-16, 21-14), while in doubles, Komal and Lalita lost to Korma and Sonali by (17-21, 17-21).
In another semifinal battle of this event, Chandigarh outclassed Delhi to seal berth in the finals. In singles, Gauri Asya of Delhi drubbed Muskan Soni of Chandigarh by (21-17, 21-16) and Kalash of Chandigarh beat Akanksha of Delhi by (21-14, 21-19), while in doubles, Muskan and Kalash of Chandigarh beat Noor and Gauri of Delhi by (21-20, 18-21, 21-13).
The matches were officiated under the supervision of Chief referee Krishan Gopal and Pawanjeet Singh, Vikram Jamwal and Vipan Sharma.
