Hatli residents facing acute drinking water scarcity

KATHUA, June 27: The residents in Hatli village of Kathua district are facing acute scarcity of drinking water for a long time with authorities at the helm of affairs not taking pains in sorting out the issue.
The residents said that the water scarcity has added to the woes of the people in this hot and humid summer as the all natural sources of water including the ponds and bowlies have dried up. The residents said that over 1000 population of the village are totally affected and despite their repeated pleas to the authorities of Jal Shakti Department no action has been taken in this regard.
The residents said that a tube well was constructed in the village over one year back but that is totally defunct as the department failed to lay the 400 feet long pipe to connect it with the village. They said the issue was taken up by them with the concerned Superintendent Engineer but to no avail.
The residents said that they have to travel over one km to fetch the drinking water in this hot Summer. They urged the authorities to take immediate steps in laying the water pipe to supply the drinking water to the area failing which they will be constrained to launch agitation.
