JAMMU, Dec 9: The members of J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu, are continuously agitating for fulfillment of their demands seeking restoration of powers of registration of documents back to the Judicial officers.
The indefinite strike has entered in its 39th day but during the course of on going agitation, the members in its general house meeting held on December 2, 2019, under the chairmanship of Abhinav Sharma, president, J&K High Court Bar Association, decided to intensify the on going agitation. As a part of this decision the Bar members are now on token hunger strike from December 4, 2019. This hunger strike today entered 5th consecutive day today.
Among those who sat on hunger strike today are, Monish Chopra, Rajesh Choudhary, Nitin Gupta, Arvind Bandral, Amit Chopra, Surjeet Singh Andotra, Gagandeep Singh, Kamal Magotra, Atul Raina and Rakesh Sharma.
In addition to these members, many senior members and office bearers of JKHCBAJ namely Rohit Bhagat, vice president, Abhishek Wazir general secretary, Pardeep Majotra joint secretary and Sushant Samnotra Treasurer were also present at the `Dharna’ site.
The JKHCBAJ has decided to continue its on going agitation till the genuine demands are fulfilled. It also claimed that Bar intends to cause no inconvenience to the public in general and Advocates in particulars.
The JKHCBAJ also urged upon the Government to fulfill the demand regarding withdrawal of the powers of registration from the Revenue authorities and restoring the same to the Judicial Magistrates so that the system which was prevailing earlier shall continue.
Reports from Kathua said that the work remain suspended for the 29th consecutive day in the District & Session Court Kathua including all other subordinate courts of the entire district. A complete shutdown was observed by District Bar Association Kathua led by its president Ajat Shatru Sharma in support of J&K High Court Bar Association Jammu on the issue transfer of Registration powers under Registration Act 1908.
In order to intensify their agitation, the members of the District Bar Kathua continued its token hunger strike in the District & Sessions Court complex, on the similar pattern of J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu. The Advocates who sat on hunger strike on the Monday includes Pawandeep Singh, Mandeep Singh, Munish Mahajan, Pankaj Gupta and Adarsh Kumar.
