Srinagar, Aug 20: High Court directed the Deputy Commissioner Pulwama to consider the establishing dumping site and solid waste treatment plant at district Pulwama in tune with the law.
The inhabitants of villages Parigam Wanpora and Tumchi Nowpora of District Pulwama had approached the court in representative capacity on behalf of the villagers seeking directions that solid waste and garbage in the villages may not be dumped at the site which is reserved for construction of school building and primary health centre.
They also pray that an integrated Solid Waste Management Strategy, 2017 be implemented so as to establish the solid waste treatment plant and the site in question cannot be used as such.
The Division Bench of Chief Justice Pankaj Mithal and Justice Wasim Sadiq Nargal while closing the plea of villagers asked them to file a comprehensive representation raising all the grievances in connection with the proposed solid waste and garbage site to be established in village Parigam, District Pulwama before the Deputy Commissioner Pulwama.
Court also asked them to raise the issue of establishment of the solid waste treatment plant in accordance with the integrated solid waste management strategy 2017 with the DC Pulwama in their representation. Court said if any representation is submitted by the villagers that shall be considered in accordance with law.
The villagers in this connection have already submitted a representation to the Director Urban Local Bodies, Srinagar Kashmir. Court said the grievances of the villagers as to whether the proposed dumping site has been reserved for any other purpose or that it is not suitable for such a purpose are issues which can be appropriately dealt with by the Deputy Commissioner, Pulwama.
