SRINAGAR, Dec 6: The High Court today reprimanded the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and Deputy Commissioner Srinagar for not releasing rentals for accommodation of DDC candidates, Panchs and Sarpanchs in a hotel.
Justice Atul Sreedharan expressed his anguish on both the officials during proceedings and directed them to release the amount of admitted liability of Rs 2.50 crores in favour of Hotel Sidiq Palace.
The court observed that since contempt has proved for violating basic court judgment and asked the officials to remain present before the court tomorrow explaining as to why they should not be punished.
The contempt petition was filed by the owner of a hotel namely Hotel Sideeq Palace which was occupied by the authorities on rentals in order to provide secured allotment to the DDC candidates, Panchs, Sarpanchs and Councilors during Panch and Municipal elections.
Court had directed the authorities to initiate and conclude the process for release of admitted liability of rentals qua the hotel and consequently make payment thereof to the petitioner-proprietor preferably within a period of eight weeks.
Failing to comply with the directions, the instant contempt petition has been preferred by the hotel owner and while seeking personal appearance of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, the court said that despite service of notices on the contemnors, none is present on their behalf.
