Srinagar, Oct 24: High court today took suo moto cognizance with regard to less sporting facilities available at Indoor and Outdoor Stadiums of J&K.
In this connection Court issued notices to Union of India through Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, Government of J&K through Secretary, Department of Youth Services and Sports, J&K Sports Council, J&K Sports Association and other sports federation of the country to file their responses on the issue.
The Court said there are more than 50 sports but we only have few sports here in this State. “We don’t have sporting facilities for our children. This critical aspect is lacking here which could benefit our children in many ways”, it said.
The Division Bench of Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Alok Aradhe said that it cannot be denied that a happy child be given adequate sporting facilities so to provide him/her with opportunities to compete at National and International level.
The importance of sports, Court said, cannot be emphasized particularly sports helps in building personal appearances and at most importantly is helpful to imbibe team work attitude in children.
The Court observed that Government of J&K has essential responsibility to provide these facilities to the children and budgetry for sports has to be ensured to provide different sporting platforms to our growing youth.
Meanwhile for small children, Court directed recreational and amusement parks be established. It was also directed that changing rooms be also created.
