HC stays IG CRPF’s demotion order

Excelsior Correspondent
Srinagar, Feb 15: The Division Bench of High Court today stayed the single bench order that had last month upheld the Union Government order of demotion of the Inspector General of Central Reserve Police Force, S Sandhu.
Division Bench comprising Justice Hasnain Masoodi and Justice Tashi Rabstan issued the stay order after hearing the arguments in the case and issued notice to Union Government and other respondents to file objections.
The court said the LPA filed by Ex-IG CRPF deserves to be taken up for the final disposal at an earliest.
The appellant Sandhu by way of the LPA has challenged the order of the court that was passed last month in which his demotion order was upheld.
Sandhu was promoted in September 2012 to IG rank but the order was later withdrawn as he was found unfit for the post.
His counsel Advocate Reyaz Jan submitted before the court that the appellant was still holding the position of Inspector General.
The counsel for respondents Advocate Showkat Ahmad Makroo (ASGI) submitted that the principles of natural justice were followed in withdrawing the promotion order of Sandhu.
