SRINAGAR, July 30: Heavy rains since this evening led to a canal breach in Ganderbal district. However, no loss of life and property was reported as per initial reports.
Official sources told Excelsior that heavy rains lashed several parts of Ganderbal district since 4 pm today due to which the Patshahi Canal was breached at Baba Wayil and the water of the canal entered into Nunar village and nearby fields.
Traffic on Ganderbal-Kangan Road had to be suspended for few hours due to canal breach. However, the district administration and Irrigation Department responded swiftly and the direction of the water was diverted on other side and the traffic was restored on busy road.
“Things are returning to normal as the water has receded. There is no loss of life and property due to sudden breach of the canal. Everybody is safe,” an official of district administration said.
