Sir,
On the South Western extension of Natha-Top in Patnitop area, there exists village Mada which is very rich in historical and cultural heritage. The lower end of this village touches Chenani town and upper end has lofty hill tops with snow cover throughout the winter. The interior portion consists of fertile land, cold water springs, wide meadows and beautiful valleys. This village was given as Jagir to Rajkumar Bhagat Chand- of Royal House of Chenani. The members of some families are residing in this village till now. In the past, it was an important border village between Chenani and Bhuti States. Important trade and travel route between these two states was through ‘Chorgala’ pass. The major trade and travel route to Kashmir etc. also passed through this village via Ladha Dhar etc till construction of Banihal cart road.
The heritage in this village consists in the shape of Chorgala Fort on the border of Chenani and Bhuti States. The Fort has witnessed many battles between these two States. Now due to official neglect, there are no signs of this. Fort is available on the ground.
Other most important site Mada Lake in this village is fastly dying. This beautiful lake connecting divine fairy Tale was a big water body, but now a days turned into a small pond. Strange magical viberations can be felt in the lake area by the visitors.
The third most important old heritage is the Secret House of some Wazir of Chenani which has deep well shaped structure covered by a lid surrounded by buildings of residential houses.
It is said that it was made to give severe punishment to criminals etc. to make them suddenly disappear by throwing them in this deep well. Some stone made construction of Bowli and Haweli etc; exist near this Secret House. Other importent thing to see is the grinding stones of ancient divine atta-chakki. Apart from this, the Kudd’ and Jattars’ of Mada are very important and impressive cultural events with local Gods and Dieties.
Yours etc…
