Heritage Walk, folk dance among activities on day 2 of Tawi Art Fest

JAMMU, Feb 26: The ongoing three day ‘Tawi Art Festival’ witnessed a heavy footfall as it entered day two on Sunday at historic Amar Mehal here.
The visitors witnessed a variety of programmes with main attractions remaining the Heritage Walk organised at Dogra Art Museum, Mubarak Mandi.
Kirpal Singh, Conservation Expert and former Curator, Dogra Art Museum, Mubarak Mandi, guided the participants during the walk and shared with them the archaeological and historical significance of the rich Dogra Culture.
The session today started with welcome address of Dr. Jyotsna Singh, Director Amar Mahal Museum and Library and a member of the erstwhile Dogra Royal family.
In her address she enlightened the visitors about salient features of Dogra Rule and rich cultural legacy of the Dogra people.
Former Governor and Founder of Amar Mahal Museum & Library, Dr. Karan Singh, Ajatshatru Singh, Ritu Singh were among prominent persons who graced the occasion.
Rajinder Pawar, Founder and Chairman NIIT Group talked on ‘Heritage: Past and Future’ at Darbar Hall Amar Mahal.
“Culture and heritage are roots of a community or region and bear the same significance as the roots have for the tree,” he said adding that this is the beginning of creating mass awareness about Jammu regions’ rich heritage which should be taken to national as well as global level.
Chairman NIIT asked youth of J&K to come forward and understand the significance of heritage.
Vinita Dawra Nangia, Festival Director said there is a dire need to hold such festival on every regular interval. Vaishnavi Kumari of Kishangarh and Maalvika Pathania, associated with INTACH Himachal Pradesh also spoke on the occasion.
Other attractions of the festival remained the Mela showcasing folk dances and music.
Natrang artists exhibited scintillating performance by presenting play ‘Ghatt’.
Later, Dr Jyotsana held a discussion on Future Perspective of Heritage.
Niti Pawar, expert on traditional handicrafts; Rani Shailaja Katoch from Labagram-who manages a museum at Kangra Fort; Maharawal Chaitanya Singh of Jaisalmer-who is involved in education and conservation; R.K Adhishree Singh, Founder AGENC Colab and others participated in the discussion.
Special invitees Anshu Khanna and Safir Anand gave suggestion for the future.
Mukteshi Sharma, a versatile singer presented a classical vocal concert.
The second day of the Fest concluded with Himachali Dham.
