High hopes from new PM: Gujjars

JAMMU, May 27: Gujjars in Jammu and Kashmir today said the community has high hopes from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “The downtrodden Gujjar and Bakkerwal communities of the State have very high hopes that the new BJP-led Government would work sincerely in solving their long pending issues,” Eshfaq-ur-Rehman Poswal, State president, Bharatiya Gujjar Mahasabha, Jammu and Kashmir in a statement issued here today said.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his election rallies at Jammu, had strongly advocated for these communities and promised to work for resolving their issues,” Mr Poswal said and hoped, “the track record of Mr Modi is a testimony that he is a hard worker and lives up to his promises.” He said the new PM will make his Government accountable and transparent.
The Gujjar leader said, “we can now hope that the Centrally sponsored schemes, especially those meant for Gujjars and Bakkerwals of the State would be implemented properly and the benefits will percolate down to the deserving lot.” He also said that besides old, some other welfare schemes would also be launched in the State. “The newly sworn-in Ministers also have a clean track record and some of them have also worked in former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee’s Government,” he said adding that Gujjar Mahasabha has written a letter to Mr Modi seeking time from him for the delegation of the Sabha to highlight the issues of Gujjars and Bakkerwals of the State.
