Sometimes back the Supreme Court ordered banning of liquor shops on all National Highways. This order has come in the background of increasing number of motor vehicle accidents taking place in the country in general.
It has to be remembered that our State being a hilly State, is victim of a large number of motor vehicle accidents caused by driving after drinking by the drivers. Since many people having formal licenses had opened liquor shops along the Highways, it became easy for the drivers to purchase liquor while driving along the National Highway and thus put the lives of innocent passengers to risk. The Governor has written to the Chief Minister to implement the order of the Supreme Court with full determination. The SC has set April 1, 2017 as the dead line for implementing the order meaning that by that date all liquor shops along the National Highway shall have to be shut down. We highly appreciate the urgency shown by the Governor in asking the CM to see to it that the order is implemented in time. This will save the lives of innocent passengers from the dangers emanating from drunken driving.
