Hike in rates of ration big blow to common man: JPPF

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Dec 11: Critici-sing the Department of Consumers Affair and Public Distribution for faulty implementation of National Food Security Act, Jammu Province People Forum (JPPF) has urged the State Govt to streamline the system in view of the hue and cry amongst masses as the whole distribution system seems confused and paralysed.
Addressing members during a meeting president of the JPPF, Pavittar Singh Bhardwaj blamed the State Govt that hefty increase in the ration rates has come as a blow to the common man already under financial duress due to sky high inflation in the essential commodities. “Daal had already disappeared from the poor man’s Thaali and now the Roti is going to vanish as a result of sudden hike in ration rates which is unjustified, unconstitutional and needs to be roled back immediately in case the poor common man has to survive,” he added.
Expressing concern on the delay in the supply of new Ration Cards as per Census 2011, the president said uncertainty prevails in the system as to the category, scale of ration and the rates applicable amongst all catagories of rationees which is most confusing as enhanced rate of ration is being charged from one and all. In fact the additional quota of Ration under Mufti Mohd Sayeed Food Supply Act was to be charged at enhanced rates of Rs 13 and 15 a Kg for atta and rice but unfortunately every consumer is being made to pay the enhanced rate.
Pointing towards the self imposed reduction in the supply of levy sugar from 700 gm to 500 gm the president said there is no justification or notification to this effect. Even during festivals Jammuites have been refused sugar quota for reasons better known to the Deptt.
MS Katoch working president, Inderjeet Khajuria, Narayan Singh, Avinash Bhatia, Rajinder Gupta, RS Jamwal, Balwan Singh, Kamla Sharma, Suneeta Sharma, Prof ML Sharma, Pritam Sharma, Surinder Kumar Vir, Rajinder Singh, MLSharma and Ajit Singh Adyal also spoke on the occasion.
