HM hopes violence will end, new Sun will rise in Kashmir

JAMMU, June 26: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today hoped that violence will end in Kashmir and peace and happiness will be restored in the Valley soon to pave the way for emergence of new dawn.
In a video message to the people of Jammu and Kashmir on Eid festival, Rajnath said new Sun will rise in Kashmir, which will bring peace and normalcy back to the Valley and happiness for people of the State.
Rajnath, whose Home Ministry has been in forefront on initiating series of measures to curb violence and unrest in the Valley, wished people of the State on Eid festival, which was celebrated across the country including Jammu and Kashmir today with religious fervor and gaiety.
He hoped for return of peace in the Valley, which has been facing series of violent incidents including spurt in militant activities, attacks on police personnel etc though the Government has taken various measures to maintain peace.
Conveying his Eid greetings, the Union Home Minister said the festival will help in bringing peace and happiness in the Kashmir Valley.
Singh said he conveys his Eid greetings to all Kashmiri brothers, sisters, youth, seniors and children from the bottom of his heart.
“I am fully confident that this festival of goodness and humanity will help in bringing peace, understanding, brotherhood and happiness in Kashmir Valley and pave the way for a new dawn there,” he said.
Rajnath Singh’s message for return of peace and normalcy in Kashmir comes amidst reports that he could travel to Kashmir soon for review of Shri Amarnath Ji yatra security and overall security situation in the Valley. There have also been reports that Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi and top brass of para-military forces, who have been engaged in security arrangements for annual pilgrimage of Shri Amarnath Ji shrine, would also visit the Valley for on spot review of security measures.
Annual pilgrimage of Shri Amarnath Ji in South Kashmir Himalayas will start on June 28 from Jammu and June 29 from forward base camps of Baltal and Nunwan (Pahalgam). It will last 40 days and conclude on August 7 coinciding with Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan.
Kashmir valley had witnessed long spell of violence after the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani on July 8, 2016. Massive violence was again witnessed during the April 9 by-poll to the Srinagar Lok Sabha seat.
Since April, several security personnel were killed by militants while a Deputy Superintendent of Police was lynched by a mob in Srinagar three days ago.
The Home Minister, in a separate message, extended his greetings and good wishes to the people of the whole country.
“My greetings and good wishes to people on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. May this festival strengthens bonds of peace and amity in the society,” he said in a tweet.
Singh also conveyed greetings to everyone on the occasion of Rath Yatra.
“May Lord Jagannath shower joy, peace and prosperity in everyone’s lives,” he said in another tweet.
