BARAMULLA, July 17: A weeklong summer hockey camp that began on July 10 concluded here today, with participants calling for improved facilities to enhance hockey in this district.
Organized by Bikram Club Baramulla, one of the oldest and most reputed hockey clubs in Jammu and Kashmir, the camp saw nearly 25 boys and girls aged 7 to 15 participating. “We are happy the camp was organized and the coaches worked really hard with us. However, we lack the facilities that players from other districts enjoy,” said Ishrat, one of the participants.
The camp was conducted under the supervision of senior hockey coach Satinderjit Singh, accompanied by senior hockey coach Ranbir Singh. “Districts that were previously behind in hockey have received astro turf, but we are yet to receive it despite our history of producing top hockey players. We organized the camp during school vacations to give a boost to the game,” Satinderjit Singh, said. The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, with Firoz Yahya, SP Operations Baramulla, serving as the chief guest.
