HSS Chakroi becomes first Govt School to bag Gold; Sainik School takes further lead

JAMMU, Oct 15: Sainik School, Nagrota consolidated its position at the top of the medal tally by winning another Gold medal in the Discus Throw event of Athletics, being held at BSF Campus, Paloura. It also won a Bronze in the same event.
Cadet Karma Dukda, a student from Ladakh, won the Gold in the Discus Throw, whereas, Kartik Karalia won the Bronze.
GHSS, Chakrohi, made its resounding entry at the medal table with Gold in the Long Jump event. Phinder Kumar, a resident of border village of Chakrohi in Suchetgarh Tehsil did the honour for GHSS, Chakrohi. He bagged Gold with a jump of 5.61 metres. This also marked the entry of any Government School at the medal tally.
MHAC, Nagbani won 2 Silvers and 1 Bronze in the Athletics. Abhishek Pratap Singh won Silver in Discus Throw, whereas, Keshav Singh and Gourav Verma won Silver and Bronze medal respectively in the Long Jump.
The other qualifying events which were conducted on day two of Athletics included the 200 metres, 3000 metres and 4×100 relay (all for boys). In girls’ Hockey, APS, Akhnoor defeated APS, Miran Sahib (2-0) to enter the finals. In boys’ Basketball, an exciting encounter was seen between Sainik School, Nagrota and APS, Kaluchak, in which Sainik School, Nagrota faced defeat.
In Volleyball, round one and round two matches were held in the Boys’ category, whereas quarterfinals were held in the Girls’ category. In girls’ Volleyball, APS, Miran Sahib, GGHS, Akhnoor and GGHS, Shastri Nagar stormed into the semifinals. Another exciting match was played in the Boys’ Football between Sainik School, Nagrota and APS Domana which got decided in penalty shootout stage, in favour of Sainik School, Nagrota. KC Public School and BSF School, Paloura also moved to the next round of Boys’ Football.
SOS Hermann and St Francis Higher Secondary Akhnoor entered girls Kabaddi final, which will be played on October 20.
Meanwhile, in Table Tennis quarterfinal stage (boys), Arnav Rohmetra registered win over Sarth Jain by 2-0 (11-08 and 11-09, Ritvik Gupta beat Hanumat Sharma by 2-0 (11-08 and 11-09), Ketan Sharma defeated Karmanya Sharma by 2-0 (11-07 and 11-08) and Udhbay Bhaskar smashed Aashray Kohli by 2-0 (11-08 and 11-09). In quarterfinal stage (girl), Ashmit Kour beat Kavya Aggarwal by 2-0 (11-09, 11-08), Bhawani Rakwal outplayed Simran Choudhary by 2-0 (11-08 and 11-09), Hargun Kour registered win over Ragini Gupta by 2-0 (11-08 and 11-07) and Shreya Mahajan defeated Isha Ganju by 2-0 (11-08 and 11-09).
