KARGIL, Aug 17: Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, Chairman/CEC of LAHDC Kargil, inaugurated the Inter-Zonal District Level School tournament at Khree Sultan Chow Sports Stadium in Biamathang, Kargil. The event, organized by the Youth Services and Sports Department, features athletes from seven zones of Kargil competing in Football, Handball, Volleyball, and Athletics across U-14, U-17, U-18, and U-19 age groups.
Dr. Akhoon encouraged students to participate with dedication, noting that such tournaments are vital for preparing them for national and international events. He emphasized the significance of local talent for Ladakh’s future involvement in National Games and expressed satisfaction with the region’s improving sports infrastructure. He assured that LAHDC would provide full support and urged athletes to utilize all available facilities for their success.
District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO) Kargil, Abid Ali, outlined that zonal-level tournaments had been held prior to this district-level competition. He emphasized that the event aims to identify talented athletes for the UT team and national competitions. Notable attendees included Divisional Forest Officer Mohd Ali, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Liyaqat Ali, Chief Education Officer S. D. Namgyail, and various Physical Education Teachers.
