GWALIOR: Marking the 20th anniversary of victory in ‘Operation VIJAY’ popularly known as the ‘Kargil War, the Indian Air Force (IAF) on Monday planned several activities at the Air Base, here, including a symbolic recreation of the ‘Tiger Hill attack’.
“This year, 20th anniversary of victory in ‘Operation VIJAY’ is being celebrated with the theme ‘Remember, Rejoice and Renew’. We ‘remember’ our martyrs, by revisiting the sacrifices and instilling pride and respect among us, we ‘rejoice’ by celebrating the victory in Kargil and we ‘renew’ our resolve to safeguard the honour of the Tricolour,” an official statement said.
“To commemorate the event, several activities have been planned including a symbolic recreation of the Tiger Hill attack that took place during the Kargil War in 1999 followed by a static display of Mirage-2000” a senior IAF official said while briefing the mediapersons.
Mirage-2000 aircraft played a crucial role in the battles fought during the Kargil War in 1999 and also hit enemy targets bunkered in at the Tiger Hill.
Several gallantry award winners, who had participated in ‘Operation Vijay’ would attend the event, the official added. (AGENCIES)
