JAMMU, Nov 19: International Centre for cross cultural Research and Human Resource Management (ICccR & HRM) University of Jammu, organized one day Management students’ conclave, here today.
More than one hundred students were registered for the conclave, which consisted of round tables on the themes “Building International Careers” and “Enterprise and Entrepreneurship”.
The participating institutions included Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, MBS College, MIET, Department of Tourism Management, Central University of Jammu, Management School Kathua Campus, Management School Bhaderwah Campus, The Business School, JU and the MBA-IB and Composite Culture Management students at ICccR & HRM.
Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar, Vice Chancellor, JU, inaugurated the conclave and emphasized on the importance of entrepreneurship for acquiring skills to create, learn and institutionalize new ideas rather than focusing on the replication of existing models. He opined that the overall development in infrastructure and policies for enhancing enterprise and entrepreneurship opportunities underpins a longer-term change in institutional cultures and practices.
Prof S K Jain, Vice Chancellor of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, delivered the inaugural talk and elaborated upon the paradigm shift that industries all across the globe have witnessed over a period of time with changing contexts and markets.
The experts on the theme “Building International Careers” included Manish Trehan, CEO, Philos Consulting, Gurgaon and Dr Sabeha Mufti from Media and Mass Communication Centre, University of Kashmir.
Mr Manish stressed upon the importance of cultural compatibility and need for influential leaders rather than authoritarian ones. Dr Sabeha Mufti emphasized the importance of global networking and collaboration for yielding international success and breakthroughs.
During the second Round -Table on “Enterprise and Entrepreneurship” the guest speakers were K K Goyal, Assistant Director, MSME, Government of India and Dharminder Khajuria, Chief Operating Officer, Bharti Airtel Limited, J&K Circle.
Prof B C Sharma, Dean Student Placements, JU, moderated the Round-Table on “Enterprise and Entrepreneurship”.
Earlier, Prof Neelu Rohmetra, Director ICccR & HRM corroborated on the relevance of introducing themes as a part of conclave. She emphasized on the role of educators, corporate and the State to actively participate in the entrepreneurship development process.
Prof Deshbandhu Gupta, in his concluding remarks, stressed the need for every management practitioner to question the very basic insight of being an entrepreneur.
The conclave comprised of Business competitions as well. A Business Quiz between the participating teams was held based on the visual rounds. Prof Dipanker Sengupta, HOD, Department of Economics, JU, acted as the Quiz Master.
The other activities were ‘Build from the Trash’ and 1-Minute Management Games. The competitions were duly held in the presence of judges from the Corporate; Annil Suri, chairman, Federation of Industries, Jammu and Anil Kumar, DGM-HR, ONGC Academy Dehradun.
While MBA-IB bagged 1st Rank in Business Quiz, SMVDU were adjudged at position 1st for the Collage making on a business theme. MIET bagged 2nd prize in Quiz and Kathua Campus stood at position third in Quiz. Kathua Campus and Bhaderwah campus got 2nd and 3rd prizes, respectively in Collage making competition. Prizes in other Management Games were bagged by SMVDU, Central University, Jammu, MBA-IB, Kathua Campus and MIET.
Others who attended the event included Prof Neelam Saraf, Prof Keshav Sharma, Prof Pankaj Srivastava, Jai Kumar Sharma and the faculty members.
