ICccR & HRM organizes seminar on entrepreneurship opportunities

JAMMU, Feb 2: The International Centre for Cross Cultural Research and Human Resource Management (ICccR & HRM), University of Jammu, in collaboration with Jammu Chapter National HRD Network, organized an awareness seminar on “Enterprise and Entrepreneurship in the State of Jammu & Kashmir: Seeking Opportunities in Tourism, Agro Products and Handicrafts”.
The students of MBA: International Business (MBA-IB) at ICccR & HRM and The Management School, Kathua Campus, University of Jammu were the target audience for the seminar.
Annil Suri, president BBIA and vice-president, Jammu Chapter, NHRDN;  Professor Neelu Rohmetra, Director, ICccR & HRM, JU and president, Jammu Chapter, NHRDN;  K K  Goyal, Assistant Director, MSME-DI, Jammu;   Deepika Rana, Development Officer, JK Handicrafts;  Prof  B C  Sharma, Dean Student Placements and Secretary, Jammu Chapter, NHRDN;  Dr  Rajendra Mishra, Associate Professor, The Business School, JU;  Dr  Anil Gupta, Assistant Professor, TBS and Joint Secretary, Jammu Chapter, NHRDN and Dr  Suvidha Khanna, Assistant Professor, SHTM, University of Jammu, were the resource persons on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, K K Goyal, Assistant Director, MSME-DI, Jammu, discussed various schemes and opportunities for young entrepreneurs in the State of Jammu and Kashmir. He reflected on schemes like ‘Trade Related Entrepreneurship Assistance’, ‘Credit Linked Capital Subsidy Scheme’, ‘Small Industries Cluster Development Programme’, ‘Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme’ etc.
Deepika Rana elaborated upon the socio-economic significance of handicrafts in the State of J&K and informed the students about the kind of training programmes being conducted by the Department that facilitate self-employment opportunities, welfare measures, recognition of craftsmen, marketing of handicrafts, design, development and dissemination and registration of Industrial Cooperative Societies.
Annil Suri   deliberated upon the importance of entrepreneurship in creating opportunities for young entrepreneurs while highlighting the various challenges that they have to confront on day-to-day basis.  He said that there is vast potential in J&K to look out for untapped opportunities and focussed upon the need to take up small initiatives to convert them into successful enterprises.
Dr Rajendra Mishra threw light upon the success stories of various entrepreneurs to motivate the students to think of entrepreneurship as an important career avenue.
Dr Suvidha Khanna discussed the role of culture in promoting entrepreneurship in the State of J&K and highlighted the linkage between culture and heritage tourism for creating business opportunities in the untapped market.
Prof B C Sharma called for a greater emphasis on enterprise and entrepreneurship education that generate employability while Dr Anil Gupta presented concluding remarks.
Professor Neelu Rohmetra, Director, ICccR & HRM, JU and President, Jammu Chapter, NHRDN, was the moderator for the panel discussions. She focussed upon the trans-disciplinary nature of enterprise and entrepreneurship, cutting across key issues as employability, innovation, knowledge transfer, commercialization, and intellectual property. She also dwelt upon the key behaviours, attributes and skills which contribute towards the development of entrepreneurial mindset amongst the youth.
The awareness seminar was recognized with a view to promote entrepreneurial activity and opportunity in the State of Jammu and Kashmir in an interactive mode.
