ICCR felicitates 22 girls

JAMMU, June 5: Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Union Ministry of External Affairs, today felicitated 22 young artists for their most outstanding performance in the ‘Young Tarang Series’ organised by ICCR Jammu in their college. The honours were conferred at the auditorium of Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar by the Regional Director of ICCR, J&K, Balwant Thakur, who was joined by Prof Kiran Bakshi, Principal of the College.
Earlier speaking about this new initiative of ICCR, Balwant Thakur, while speaking on the occasion, said that through this ICCR aims at spotting the rarest talent which could later through proper professional training could be considered for International performances. Mandated to take India to the world, ICCR sponsors over 150 groups every year for their performances across the world and with its keenness to represent best of India abroad, this new series has been started in search of new talents.
Since the inception of ICCR in Jammu, the artists of this region had the rarest occasion to represent India in many world festivals including in London, Paris, Tehran, Xining (China), Kirgizstan, Kazakhstan, (Erstwhile Russia) and Bhutan in addition to many International cultural events held in Delhi and Bangalore. Balwant Thakur thanked Prof Kiran Bakshi for encouraging and appreciating young talents of the college and prompting them to excel and compete for International programmes and performances.
Balwant Thakur further informed that ICCR will continue its endeavour to hold such events on regular basis to identify new talents and as a follow up of this exercise will also hold professional training programmes so as to sharpen the rarest talent and later provide them the performance opportunity at the International level.
The young artists who were awarded certificates of participation by ICCR included Mehak Sharma, Neerja Bharti, Shruti Sharma, Shivalika Attri, Roshi Kumari, Harmeet Kour, Pavneet Kour, Simrandeep Kour, Neha Thapa, Sumriti Choudhary, Simranjeet Kour, Harneet Kour, Gunmeet Kour, Shavi Slathia, Savy Slathia, Kamini Bogal, Sharu Slathia, Jashvi Jamwal, Sonia Kour, Durkasti Sharma, Avnee Sharma and Palak Deep Kour.
