The performance of the 20 member team that participated in the recently concluded International Ice Hockey Federation’s Women Ice Hockey Challenge Cup of Asia in Bangkok, Thailand is commendable.
Despite lack of training facilities, the team put a brilliant show in the competition. It was the second time that a team of Ice hockey players from Ladakh was selected to represent the country in an international event.
The team has made not only people of Ladakh proud but also the whole country. They would have performed much better had they been provided excellent training and sufficient funds. Lack of exposure at the international level is really a big drawback.
The Sports Ministry should ensure that in the future, these players are given numerous opportunities to play at international level.
Besides, arrangements should be made at the local level. There is urgent need to tap the local talent by constructing Ice hockey rinks at the block level.
