JAMMU, Mar 22: The Institution of Engineers (IE), Jammu Local Centre celebrated “World Water Day” today at Institutional Complex, Channi Himmat, by holding a seminar on theme topic “Water Cooperation”.
The seminar was attended by a large number of engineers from various departments and organizations. The seminar was chaired by K K Gupta, Chief Engineer, Irrigation & Flood Control Department, J&K Government and presided over by Ashok Kumar Gupta, FIE; Former Chairman of The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre.
Six papers on the theme topic were presented by S C Thukral, FIE; B L Rawal, MIE; Sewa Ram, MIE; Deepak Byotra, MIE; Rajesh Kumar Angural and Miss Parul Sharma.
All the speakers emphasized that water is the most important element for our national development and for whatsoever purpose it is used be it- fresh water, agriculture, industry, domestic use; huge saving of water is possible if all the stakeholders mutually co-operate.
The authors highlighted the amazing reason to feel that every single drop of water on earth is precious and its saving will help in ensuring food security, health security and ecological security for the people.
While deliberating on the theme topic, the chief guest emphasized that water is the mother and medium of life. He advocated for Water Cooperation so that India does not become water stressed nation by the year 2020 as per UN’s prediction.
Rabinder Shekher, MIE; Honorary Secretary conducted the proceedings of the seminar, delivered welcome address and presented vote of thanks to the gathering. He also appealed to general public to make judicious use of water.
