IED defused, tragedy averted

SRINAGAR, Jan 14: Security forces today averted a major tragedy when they detected an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by militants in Maloora area on the outskirts of Srinagar.
The IED was detected by a patrolling party on a roadside in Maloora. A Bomb Disposal Squad was immediately sent to the spot and the IED was defused.
Traffic on Srinagar-Bandipora road was suspended following the detection of IED. Army, CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel arrived at Malroo on Srinagar-Bandipora road early this morning.
Pertinently, an IED weighing nearly five kilograms was defused yesterday in the adjacent HMT area on Srinagar-Baramulla road.
The security along the National Highway towards Baramulla and Srinagar Bypass has been intensified after the planting of IEDs by the militants. Security forces had established nakas at several places and suspicious vehicles were being checked and people frisked.
