SRINAGAR, Nov 16: Army today averted a major tragedy by recovering two powerful Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) from Tangdhar near the Line of Control (LoC) in the frontier district of Kupwara.
A defence spokesman said that a patrol party of Infantry unit operating in the area of village Amrui, 8 kilometers from Chhamkote Town, in Tangdhar early today detected two IEDs planted near the foot track leading to the village Amrui.
The spokesman said based on the intelligence inputs received from unit source, the troops of the Infantry Unit, carried out a search operation of the areas astride the foot track of Amrui village resulting into the recovery of two IEDs, each weighing 4 kilogramme.
“The area was immediately cordoned on either side of the track and IEDs were recovered. A major tragedy was thus averted by thwarting the ill designs of the terrorists who intended to cause violence and terror in the run up to the Assembly elections,” he said.
