Golden Jubilee celebrations of AOMSI

Jammu, Nov 3: The 50 years of Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of India (AOMSI) were celebrated throughout country in 2019 with objective to make awareness among the public about safe driving practices and relation of tobacco and oral cancer .
To commemorate the occasion, the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in IGGDC Jammu headed by Prof (Dr ) Parveen Akhtar Lone, president (elect), J K chapter of AOMSI conducted various programmes on theme Safe Driving Practices to Prevent Maxillofacial Injuries’.
The two week long programme started with transfer of digital torch from Punjab chapter to JK chapter of AOMSI. This digital torch reached Jammu after travelling across all States beginning its journey from Kanyakumari and was received by Dr Parveen Akhtar Lone and team IGGDC Jammu from Commissioner of police Amritsar at the AOMSI Conference.
Posters competitions, paintings , debates, symposium and Continued Medical Education (CME) on safe driving practices were conducted and that was participated by dental graduates and students, they displayed their skills and knowledge on canvas these posters were displayed among masses to educate patients and attendants visiting hospitals about aftermath of tragic road traffic accidents., These programmes were organised and judged by faculty members and Registrars of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department IGGDCH Jammu namely Prof (Dr) Parveen Akhter Lone, Dr Roopav Nargotra, Dr Sanjay Kumar Bhagat, Dr Amrit Pal Singh, Dr Abhiroop Singh, Dr. Israr and Dr Sourav Sharma respectively, House surgeons and interns of department were key for the success of this event . Prize distribution was done for best speaker and best poster.
Lecture on tobacco and prevention of oral cancer and dental camp was organised at Army Public School Miran Sahib by Dr. Sanjay Kumar Bhagat in association with department of PCD IGGDCH Jammu where more than 1800 school students were examined.
The event was concluded with organization of walkathon starting from the premises of IGGDC, Jammu to Panjtharti Radio Station and back while displaying banners regarding road safety and distributing pamphlets to the public at large enroute to spread awareness about road traffic safety measures and prevention of maxillofacial injuries. This torch would be handed over to the head office of AOMSI on November 14 at 44th AOMSI Conference finishing its destined journey.
