IGNOU degrees awarded

Five gold medallists alongwith Regional Director K K Bhat and chief guest Savita Bakshi.

JAMMU, Apr 12: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) organized its 26th Convocation at IGNOU Maidan Garhi New Delhi Headquarters and simultaneously at its 48 Regional Centres across the country including Regional Centre Jammu via tele-conferencing.
President Pranab Mukherjee,  who was the chief guest, delivered the Convocation address while  Jatin Prasada, Minister of State for Human Resource Development was the guest of honour.
Over 158387 students all over the country were provided Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates during the Convocation functions held all over the country.
Convocation at Jammu was held at Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
Savita Bakshi, Secretary Kala Kendra and Additional Secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, who  was the guest of honour on this occasion,  awarded Degrees and Diplomas to the eligible learners.
A total of 1135 learners from Regional Centre Jammu were declared successful and eligible to receive Diplomas and Degree Certificates out of which about 250 learners were awarded Degrees and Diplomas in the Convocation function at Jammu in person.
Five learners from the Regional Centre Jammu received Gold Medals. They included Jaswant Kaur (Diploma in Nursing Administration), Monica Sharma (PGDDE), Priyanka Magotra (Diploma in Management), Ajay Gandotra (PG Diploma in Environment and Sustainable Development) and Dharamvir Singh for (Masters in Political Science).
Two other candidates from Jammu namely Devinder Singh and Vishal Raina were awarded Ph D degrees in Agriculture during the Convocation at New Delhi today.
Balwant Singh Mankotia, MLA, Udhampur constituency, also received Masters Degree in Political Science on the occasion.
Pardeep Sharma was the only recipient of PG Degree in Analytical Chemistry, introduced recently by the IGNOU.
Savita Bakshi congratulated the students on whom the University had conferred Degree and Diploma Certificates and also appreciated the efforts made by the Regional Centre team under the dynamic leadership of K K Bhat, Regional Director, for strengthening the mandate of IGNOU in the region.
On the occasion, Regional Director, K K Bhat, presented the Regional Centre Report.
