KATHUA, Dec 19: Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, Anand Jain, inaugurated 12th Police Martyr’s Memorial T-20 Cricket Championship 2023-24 at Sports Stadium Kathua today.
He was accompanied by DIG, Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range, Shakti Pathak and SSP, Kathua Shivdeep Singh Jamwal. IGP along with other officers paid rich tribute to police martyrs and reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir Police will not forget the sacrifices of martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty during his inaugural address.
He appreciated District Police Kathua and Shaheed Welfare Committee for organizing Mega Cricket Championship in memory of Police Martyrs. A total of 16 teams are participating in the championship. The tournament shall be held on league basis up to quarter final and thereafter on knockout basis. Kathua Police and Shaheed Welfare Committee asked people to witness this tournament and to boost the morale of all participants.
In the opening match played between Hill View Rajouri and GSI Tigers Kashmir team, GSI Tiger Kashmir won the toss and chose to bat first and put 120 runs on the scoreboard in 20 overs. While chasing the target of 121 runs, Hills View Rajouri team easily chased down the target in 14.5 overs and won the match. Sarthak scored the highest knock of 37 runs in 34 deliveries with five boundaries and Aman Khatri also showed splendid batting skills and scored 32 runs in 16 balls with the help of three boundaries and sixes. Kamal (Hill View Rajouri Team) was declared as Man of the Match who took three crucial wickets by giving 25 runs in 4 overs.
The other dignitaries who were present on the occasion were Rakesh Minhas, DC Kathua, Manjit Kour, Principal PTS Kathua, Koshal Kumar Sharma, Commandant IRP 19th Battalion, Paramjeet Singh, Additional SP Kathua, besides officers of Civil and Police administration.
