KATHUA, Dec 27: The 4th Police Martyrs Memorial North Zone T20 Cricket Championship 2013-14, jointly organized by District Police Kathua and Shaheed Welfare Committee Kathua got an extravagant start at District Sports Stadium, here today.
The IGP Jammu, Rajesh Kumar was the chief guest on the occasion.
Earlier, Mohan Lal, SP Kathua gave the welcome address and dwelt on length regarding the objectives of the championship. The function started with paying of floral tribute to Martyrs of J&K Police, who sacrificed their lives for the motherland while performing their duties.
IGP Jammu, Rajesh Kumar; DIG JK Range, Shakeel Ahmed Beig; District Development Commisioner, Kathua, Jatinder Kumar Singh; Brigade Commander 401 ARTY-BDE, CO CRPF, RS Rawat and SP Kathua inaugurated the function by lighting the traditional lamp and laying wreath at the Martyrs Gallery.
IGP in his address stressed on the need for better Police-Public relations and congratulated the Shaheed Welfare Committee and District Police Kathua for taking such initiatives which served the dual purpose of better Police-Public relations and honour to Martyrs’ families.
He stressed on the role of sports, drug deduction centres, Anti-drug rallies etc which are organized by the J&K Police under Civic Action Programme (CAP) for all-round development of youth.
DIG JK Range in his address lauded the support of citizens of Kathua for the success of the Civic Action Programmes like Anti-drug rally, Volleyball Championship and Police Martyrs Cricket Championship, organized by Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) in district Kathua.
The families of the Martyrs also graced the occasion by their presence at the opening Ceremony.
Large number of civilians, prominent citizens, Industrialists and Senior Officers of civil and Police Department were present at the function.
The opening match was played between RCC Udhampur and Amritsar Sports Cricket Club which was won by Amritsar Sports Club. The man of the match award was bagged by Avinash Sharma for his knock of 37 runs and one wicket.
Amritsar Cricket Club scored 193 runs in 20 overs, While RCC Udhampur scored 111 in 20 overs, thus Amritsar Sports Club won the match by 83 runs.
