IGP inaugurates Baramulla Sports Festival

SRINAGAR, Dec 22: Three day district level sports and athletics festival was organized today by police in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council and Nehru Yuva Kendra in Baramulla district.
A police spokesman said the sports meet was inaugurated by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Range, Javaid Mujtaba Gillani at Professor Showkat Ali Stadium in Baramulla.
“Hundreds of young sportspersons and athletes hailing from all across the district are participating in the sports meet. Besides athletic competitions in games like hockey, volley ball, handball, Kabaddi, table tennis, Kho Kho, Tug of War and other games will be part of the three days sports festival. A colorful cultural program was presented by school children and other cultural troupes on the occasion,” said the spokesman.
Inaugural Kabaddi match was played between Gulshan Kabaddi Club Trumbgund and Sultania Club Tujjarsharief and was won by Sultania Club, he said. Speaking on the occasion, the IGP Kashmir said that police are organizing such events, in addition to their routine duties to channelize the energy of youth in a positive direction.
He said that such events being organized in length and breadth of the Valley will continue to be held to provide the platform to youth to harness their sports talent.
